The newest member of our extended family :)

Hmmm ….. so …..

remember the last time I introduced all of you readers of Tiny Tidbits to a new member of the family. I quite had fun with that post – with quite a few optimists actually assuming that I was talking about another baby in the offing :D.

That was how the world first met Tiny Timmy – our little terrapin. Tiny Timmy has now grown enough to shed the "Tiny" and is now called just Timmy within the confines of this madhouse which we call home.

We’ve always tried our level best to nurture in both the nutty siblings, a love for nature. To appreciate what nature has to offer, to do our best to keep nature’s wealth safe, to have a very healthy regard for Mother Nature and the treasures that she offers so generously.

So then, we were not really surprised when the younger sibling got home from school one fine day – about a month back – with a tiny little friend in tow. Well, actually, make that a tiny little friend in a little box.

The younger sibling’s class had been learning about living being and non-living beings, as part of their Unit of Inquiry during Term 2 of school. They’d seen worms grow, they’d seen tadpoles grow into little frogs – basically it was a very hands-on kind of approach to this whole issue of how living things grow. At the end of Term 2,there were four little friends awaiting a new home and needless to say, the younger sibling adopted one of those and brought it home.

I should have known there was something lurking behind that huge 100 watt smile and that extra helping of twinkle in the younger sibling’s eyes when he got off the school bus that day. “I brought home somebody from school” he said. “Can you say hello to him ?” came the rather sheepish question next. “Hello to whom ?” I wondered as the younger sibling slowly revealed the small box that he’d been holding.

“If no one takes them home, who is going to take care of them ?” So I brought him home” came the concerned query and statement, as the younger sibling continued to make his case for his little friend, clutching the little treasure box and holding on to it for dear life.

The little friend in question was none other than A Black Beetle. And his (the kids have automatically presumed it is a HIM) name is Spike.

So without any further ado, here ….. meet the most recent member of our extended family family and do remember to say Hello :).
